Scott Palmer, coach of the Cross Country team, has started the season off with a bang. Last year, the team only had 17 runners show up to tryouts and this year that number has went up to 30. Coach Palmer says he looks for the top 10 lowest times out of all the Varsity runners on the team to see who will compete in the next meet. He is safely preparing the team by getting everyone use to the Georgia heat and making everyone drink plenty of water. Some of the drills the runners take part in are muscle strength exercises such as stairs, speed building with running 100s, 200s, and 800s, and just long distance running. The biggest thing he was looking forward to this season was being back with the runners from last year. Coach Palmer stated, “They are such great kids and very fun to coach.” He is also looking forward to improving the team and having a great season. The first meet will be Thursday, August 18th, at Effingham County.
